HRA slabs to move to 30-20-10 as DA crosses the 50% mark in all classified cities
With Dearness Allowance now past the 50% threshold, the automatic revision clause in the 2017 allowance order takes effect and House Rent Allowance moves to 30%, 20% and 10% of basic pay for X, Y and Z class cities respectively.
The revision does not require a fresh Cabinet decision because the escalation is built into the original order issued by the Department of Expenditure following the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
For an employee in Delhi at Level 7 with a basic pay of Rs 44,900, the change lifts HRA from Rs 12,123 to Rs 13,470 a month. Drawing and Disbursing Officers have been asked to revise pay bills without waiting for individual applications.
Employees posted in Z class stations should verify the current classification of their city, as several municipalities were reclassified after the last population census update.
